This year's Sight Unseen Offsite exhibition kicks off in New York next week, and our US editor Dan Howarth has selected five highlights from the lineup of exhibitors.

Organised by design magazine Sight Unseen founders Monica Khemserov and Jill Singer, Offsite returns for its fourth edition during the annual NYCxDesign festival.

The show will encompass a series of smaller exhibitions at the venue, including work created by five pairs of New York and Norwegian designers and a curated selection of designs by emerging talents.

This year, Khemserov and Singer have also organised design-related activations 12 retail spaces and restaurants around the city, and created a print magazine documenting the project – titled Sight Unseen Presents.

Sight Unseen Offsite takes place on the ground floor of 100 Avenue of the Americas, New York, from 19 to 22 May 2017.

Here's our pick from the 25 main exhibitors:

Crosby Studios

Strict geometric shapes feature prominently in the work of Moscow- and New York-based Crosby Studios, which will showcase a series of bronze-coloured furniture and lighting.

Among its display, the studio is debuting a chair made from a metal cube with its front and top missing, filled halfway with a suede-upholstered cushion.

Grain

Grain – a design studio from Washington – will exhibit a U-shaped stool, a wooden room divider draped with a blue textile, and a set of striped rugs.

The husband and wife team produces its designs in small batch runs "as sustainably as possible" in the Pacific Northwest.

Home Studios

New York interior design firm Home Studios, which is behind some of the city's hippest bars and restaurants, will be launching its first furniture and lighting collection.

The range features a resin lamp in millennial pink – the colour that dominated Milan design week last month – which matches a sliding bookend attached to a metal shelf.

Fernando Mastrangelo

New York designer Fernando Mastrangelo has had a busy couple of months, presenting a solo show of colourful furniture at Maison Gerard gallery in Greenwich Village and debuting a new arctic-toned collection at the city's Collective Design fair.

He has also created a series of monochrome pieces for Offsite, made using his signature technique of setting layers of grainy material with resin to form stools and tables.

Calico Wallpaper x The Principals

Wallpaper company Calico is teaming up with Brooklyn studio The Principals on a site-specific installation for the show.

Calico's Aura wall coverings patterned with imagery based on aura photography, which aims to capture the colours of a subject's spirit, will be presented as part of the collaboratively designed booth.
