New York City's annual design festival officially kicks off this weekend, and we've put together a list of highlights to visit over the next two weeks. It includes an installation of mirrored columns, a pop-up restaurant that will produce as little waste as possible, and an exhibition of furniture by only female designers.
Spirit of the City
A/D/O, 29 Norman Avenue, Brooklyn
18 May – 2 September 2018
A/D/O – the MINI-backed creative space in Greenpoint – is hosting an installation by London studio United Visual Artists that promises to be a hit with Instagrammers. A series of golden mirrored columns placed in the venue's courtyard will revolve to create myriad reflections of the space and visitors.

Menu Space NY
80 Varick Street, 7D, Manhattan
20-22 May 2018
Danish furniture brand Menu will exhibit its latest collection of furniture and homeware, designed in collaboration with Copenhagen studio Norm Architects, in a space that is bound to exude Scandinavian cool. As a taste of what to expect, take a look at the showroom in the Danish capital the two created for Menu's products that doubles as a co-working space.
Designing Women II
Egg Collective Showroom, 304 Hudson Street, #307, Manhattan

Following the success of the debut all-female exhibition last year, Egg Collective's Designing Women showcase is back with a refreshed set of pieces and a host of new faces. With the theme Masters, Mavericks, Mavens, items on display include a colourful shelving unit by Katie Stout, a set of terracotta objects by Rooms, and several pieces by the Egg Collective trio themselves.

Design Pavilion
Times Square, Manhattan
12-20 May 2018
A 2,000-square-foot inflatable pavilion will be erected in bustling Times Square to provide a venue for a variety of discussions and interactive exhibitions. The public space will host displays by international brands like Magis and Herman Miller, environmentally conscious designs from Pratt Institute students, and a curated series of Design Talks.

Opening Ceremony x Crosby Studios
Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard Street, Manhattan

Russian designer Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios has created a limited-edition home and clothing collection for fashion label Opening Ceremony. The purple furniture designs, ranging from stools and shelves to furry chairs and hand-shaped lamps, will be showcased at the brand's Soho store along with the designer's first ceramics and apparel starting 15 May 2018.
Sight Unseen Offsite
201 Mulberry Street, Manhattan
17-20 May 2018
Now a staple of NYCxDesign, Sight Unseen Offsite returns with a smaller curated set of exhibitions for 2018. A showcase of designs by emerging talents, a series of collaborations between Norwegian and New York designers, and a concept for a colourful hotel room will be among the displays at the hub location in Nolita, while an assortment of other curated interventions will pop up at spaces across Lower Manhattan.

Zero Waste Bistro

The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York is presenting a pop-up eatery from the team behind Helsinki's Restaurant Nolla, which follows a philosophy of reducing waste in the creation of its culinary offerings. The space, designed by Linda Bergroth and co-curated by Harri Koskinen, at the WantedDesign Manhattan fair will also be constructed entirely from recyclable and recycled materials.

Collective Concept at ICFF
Javits Center, 655 West 34th Street, Manhattan

Although Collective Design has moved its main annual event to March, the design-art fair will still have a presence during this year's NYCxDesign. Its organisers have selected 12 designers and studios to exhibit capsule presentations at the ICFF trade fair, spanning lighting, furnishing, ceramics and glass, and including a set of striped stone vessels by Fort Standard.
