Photos show Mexico City architects' studios of Escobedo, Rojkind and more

Frida Escobedo, Michel Rojkind and Tatiana Bilbao are among the Mexico City-based architects who have opened their studios to photographer Marc Goodwin for his latest set of images.

Goodwin captured 19 architecture offices in the Mexican capital, as part of his series that also includes workplaces in Los Angeles, Paris and the Netherlands.

The Mexico City set comprises the practices some of many celebrated names in the profession today – a testament to Mexico's booming architecture scene.

These include Rojkind Arquitectos, led by Mexican architect Michel Rojkind; Productora; and the eponymous studios of Frida Escobedo, Tatiana Bilbao and Rozana Montiel – who are among the female architects finding success independently from men in the country.

The quantity of women architects acting as heads or co-founders of practices in Mexico City surprised Goodwin, who runs photography studio Archmospheres.

"In Mexico City I was impressed by a lot of things: the history, the beauty, the people, the architecture," he told Dezeen. "More specifically to this story though, was the question of gender diversity architecture."

A | 911, led by Saidee Springall and Jose Castillo; Ambrosi Etchegaray, established by Jorge Ambrosi and Gabriela Etchegaray; Zeller & Moye, comprising Christoph Zeller and Ingrid Moye; and Gabriela Carrillo and Mauricio Rocha's studio are among those that provide examples of partnerships between men and women.

Another standout for the photographer was the effect of Mexico's deadly September 2017 earthquake – which caused major destruction across the Greater Mexico City area, and the states of Puebla and Morelos – had on the practices.

In the series, Enrique Norten's studio TEN Arquitectos is represented as a photo of a nail puncturing through a wall, as it is currently working on restoring its workplace following the event.

"In the aftermath of the 19 September 2017 earthquake in Mexico City, many buildings in the city are being reinforced, including ours in Colonia Condesa, one of the most affected areas," TEN Arquitectos told Goodwin.

"We are currently using half of our office, while the other half is under construction," the studio added. "We are very grateful to be alright, and we hope to open our completely remodelled office by the middle of this year."
