A room featuring the Conoid II rug by George Nakashima for Tai Ping Carpets

Conoid II rug by George Nakashima for Edward Fields

Dezeen Showroom: an abstract interpretation of a rural landscape by American architect and furnituremaker George Nakashima adorns the Conoid II rug, which has been reissued by Tai Ping-owned brand Edward Fields.

First produced in the late 1950s, the Conoid II rug now forms part of the brand's ready-made Home collection of rugs, which is available in pre-defined sizes and colours.

It is distinguished by five bold streaks of colour that overlap at angles against an almond-white backdrop.

Conoid II is an abstract interpretation of a rural landscape

According to Edward Fields, the design is intended as a reference to pastoral landscapes and offers an insight into Nakashima's true style, in which nature played an "integral role".

The product is made from 100 per cent New Zealand wool and hand-crafted using a loop-pile weave to create a textured finish.

Conoid II is one of nine rugs in the Edward Fields Home Collection, four of which will be featured on Dezeen Showroom over the next week.

Each piece is available in a predefined size of 2.4 by three metres to reduce the cost and manufacturing time associated with bespoke rugs.
