A Flowerpot pendant light in Stone Blue by Verner Panton

Flowerpot lamps by Verner Panton for &tradition

Dezeen Showroom: Danish brand &tradition has launched a steely blue version of its Flowerpot table lamps and pendant lights created by mid-century designer Verner Panton.

The new finish extends &tradition's existing and varied colour palette for the Flowerpot range, which comprises three pendant lights and two table lamps designed by Panton in 1968.

Stone Blue is a new colour variant for &tradition's Flowerpot lighting

Named Stone Blue, the latest steely colourway was chosen by &tradition for its versatility but also for its cool, calming undertones.

"Solid and versatile, the new hue is set to insert a cool confidence to any interior and continue the legacy of a classic that brought the feeling of calm and composure all around the world for the last half-century," the brand explained.

It is available on pendant lights and table lamps

The Flowerpot lights are known for their bold, contemporary design, composed of two hollow hemispheres cast in brightly coloured lacquered metal.

They were developed by Panton as a reference to the flower power movement of the late 1960s, which encouraged free-thinking and challenged convention.

The colour was introduced for its versatility

"Panton's provocative use of materials, geometric shapes and psychedelic colours set him apart from his contemporaries," reflected Martin Kornbek Hansen, founder of &tradition.

"Our portfolio of &tradition products wouldn't be complete without this endearing example from this evangelist of radical design."

The Stone Blue shade can be applied to both the Flowerpot pendant and table lamps, including the VP1, VP3, VP7, and VP9 models.
