Dezeen Showroom: designers Francesco Meda and David Quincoces have expanded their Onsen collection for Gandia Blasco, adding more outdoor furniture styles that reference the materiality of tanned leather.

The Onsen collection of lounge chairs, sofas and coffee tables is made with tubular steel, outdoor fabrics, and weather-resistant vinyl straps, which appear like natural leather.

These contrasting materials are combined into compositions that are meant to exude calm and balance, in a manner recalling Japanese architecture and design.

At the same time, they are designed to be robust, with the matt stainless steel offering high resistance and durability, and the waterproof upholstery being removable for cleaning.

"Onsen's success is that it has been the result of a long research process that has taken us into unexplored land and has led to innovations both in construction techniques and in the selection of materials," said Meda.

Gandia Blasco encourages the placement of Onsen furniture in interior and exterior spaces, including hotels or private homes.
