RUT seating system by Thomas Bernstrand and Stefan Borselius for Blå Station

Dezeen Showroom: created by designers Thomas Bernstrand and Stefan Borselius for Blå Station, RUT is a modular seating system made from square shapes and contrasting materials.

The RUT sofa system is distinguished by its perfectly square seating modules, each measuring 75 x 75 centimetres, and the contrast of its soft cushioning with its industrial base.

The modules of the RUT sofa are perfectly square

The base features an exposed steel H-beam running the length of the sofa, intersected by two or more perpendicular planks of solid oak wood, depending on the desired size.

Blå Station describes RUT as "casual and inviting" but also able to fit into more formal spaces.

RUT is flexible and can be arranged in near-endless configurations using the online RUT planner. The modules can be turned to the left, right or all the way around to offer different seating positions.

There is also the option to include armrests or writing tables between the modules or to incorporate power outlets.
