Two lamps on rocks by the sea

Sparkler Lanterns by Kensaku Oshiro for Poltrona Frau

Dezeen Showroom: Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau has released a trio of pear-shaped outdoor lamps called Sparkler Lanterns created by Japanese designer Kensaku Oshiro.

The Sparkler Lanterns have a holed shell that casts patterned shadows, creating an "enchanting atmosphere," according to Poltrona Frau.

"Sparkler outdoor lamps create an enchanting atmosphere through light sculptures that decorate outdoor spaces of all kinds," said the brand.

The lamps are available in small, medium and large and are made from a lacquered powder-coated aluminium frame.

A string of 0.5-millimetre-thick polypropylene rope in a taupe hue is hand-woven around their frame, adding a decorative element. Gaps in the weave allow light to pass through in unusual patterns.

Sparkler Lanterns can be dangled outside from ceilings or walls with woven rope. Users simply thread it through the robust hook on top of the lamp. Alternatively, the lamps can be used as floor lamps.

Each light has an LED with an eight-watt lithium battery and can be recharged using a USB cable.
