Dezeen Showroom: building on the popularity of his Monkey table, designer Jaime Hayon has created the playful Monkey coat stand for BD Barcelona.

The Monkey coat stand takes the characteristic elements from the table design and reworks them into a new light-hearted visual narrative, as the monkey holds up a pole topped with bananas that function as hooks.

"We all want what can fall from above to be something good," said Hayon. "For me, there's nothing better than getting home to this smiling monkey to hang my jacket."

"It looks like he's waiting for a banana to fall soon. This humourous side also gives me happiness when leaving home for the day."

As with the table before it, the base of the coat stand is made from architectural concrete, while the pole and banana are made of wood stained grey or black to match the base.

Hayon and BD Barcelona have also introduced Banana wall hangers into the collection – single banana-shaped hooks that attach directly to the wall.
