Bündner Side Table by Joana Vilaça Studio

Dezeen Showroom: Portuguese architecture and design practice Joana Vilaça Studio has expanded its Bündner collection of furniture to include a solid wood table that takes cues from the Swiss Alps lifestyle.

Studio founder Joana Vilaça is from Portugal, however wanted the low-slung wooden Bündner Side Table to reference her experience of living in Switzerland, where her studio is based.

"Having lived for five years in the beautiful Graubünden canton of Switzerland, the collection is inspired by the art of living in the Swiss Alps," she said.

The table has a round top with a 42-centimetre diameter and is available in oak or ash wood in a range of finishes, including natural, oiled or matt lacquered.

It has a self-assembly design and is suitable for use in residential or public interiors for a range of purposes including as a beside, coffee or side table.

"The possibility of self-assembly makes it playful," she said. "Sustainable materials and carefully chosen wood are combined with contemporary design."

The brand's Bündner series also includes a larger version of the side table, which is suitable for dining on. It is made from the same sustainable choices of wood.

"The Bündner collection brings together quality materials, craftsmanship and durability," Vilaça explained. "Due to the characteristics of solid wood, each piece is unique."
