Romby armchair by GamFratesi for Porro

Dezeen Showroom: design studio GamFratesi has updated its Romby chair for Italian brand Porro, giving it a more versatile shape to suit home offices or contract environments.

Originally launched in 2020, the Romby chair had a retro appearance and geometric composition that GamFratesi has now evolved into a more enveloping shape that is also more practical.

Porro describes the upholstered shell as "seeming to blossom", with sides that widen and rise to create armrests.

The designers have also added a four-legged wooden base, which branches out from the centre to echo the original chair's conical solid wood base while making it lighter and easier to move.

Porro considers the Romby chair as a manifesto object and describes it as "capable of immediately narrating the geometric purity, manufacturing excellence and artisan flavor that define the brand".

The 2023 Romby chair is on display as part of Porro's presentation at Salone del Mobile at Hall 7, Stand D15-21 and E14-18.
