Tyler School of Art and Architecture equips students with the knowledge to "engage in timely, global topics"

Promotion: the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University was recently ranked one of the top 100 national universities in the United States.

The Philadelphia-based university offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture and related subjects, including landscape architecture and regional planning.

Students learn on-site in design studios and collaborative workshops and have access to maker studios, 3D printers, laser cutters, woodshop workstations, plotters, digital routers and more. According to the university, there are also abundant opportunities for internships and mentorships across Philadelphia.

The university offers Master of Architecture and MS Architecture options at the graduate level. Architecture students enter programmes through a two-year foundation course and then choose to major in either architecture, horticulture, landscape architecture, facilities management or community development.

"Architecture students acquire knowledge and skills to engage in timely, global topics like sustainable design and development, health and climate change, social equity and digital design processes," said the university.

Architecture, historic preservation and facilities management students also have the option to complete additional certificates allowing them to enhance their major, which provides an interdisciplinary perspective by incorporating knowledge from other fields of study, such as the Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Sustainability.

In the Bachelor of Science in Community Development students learn how to become "innovative and collaborative leaders" with the necessary knowledge, values and skills to assess a community's assets, needs and opportunities.

The Landscape Architecture and Horticulture programmes aim to enable students to become "leaders in the transformation of the natural and built environments" with the goal of creating spaces that are socially equitable, ecologically sound and equipped to tackle the challenges of climate change.

Graduate degrees include Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Architecture, which include options to take modules focused on health and design, advanced technologies and urban ecologies; Master's programme in Landscape Architecture, which has a research-driven focus on ecological restoration; Master of Science in City and Regional Planning that includes opportunities to focus on transportation and sustainable community planning and Master of Science in Facilities Planning, which is a post-professional degree with the option of having a health and design focus.
