Five architecture and design events from China in March

Fashion brand Loewe's exhibition Crafted World and the second edition of Design Shenzhen are among the Chinese architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this month.

Also featured in the guide are Michael Borremans: The Promise presented by Italian brand Prada and the 53rd edition of CIFF Guangzhou.

Additionally, Chinese architecture studio Condition_Lab will bring the Vice Versa exhibition to Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai from March to April.

Vice Versa
9 March to 30 April 2024, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai

Vice Versa is an exhibition showcasing six community-driven projects by architecture and academia collective Condition_Lab.

Featuring models, drawings and prototypes, the display aims to convey the collective's approach to teaching, researching and practising architecture.

The travelling exhibition, which launched on 9 March at Arbre Art Centre in Shenzhen, is also on display at the OK Center in Guangzhou and the Urban Cross Gallery in Shanghai.

Crafted World
22 March to 5 May 2024, Shanghai

Fashion brand Loewe will present its Crafted World exhibition at Shanghai Exhibition Centre from March to May. The exhibition will then travel around the world.

Curated by Loewe's creative director Jonathan Anderson, the free exhibition celebrates the brand's history and investment in handmade crafts.

It highlights the fashion house's choice of materials and techniques, featuring artefacts and artworks that span the fields of fashion, art and culture.

The interactive space explores the brand's home nation of Spain and runways in Paris, as well as global artisanal skills such as Indian ribbon-making, Ecuadorian tapestry art, South African basket-making and Chinese bamboo weaving.

Design Shenzhen
21 to 24 March 2024, Shenzhen

The second edition of Design Shenzhen takes place at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Under the theme Fusion of Design and Technology, the trade fair will present a variety of design and art pieces and software and hardware technologies.

Design Shenzhen is set to unveil a series of feature exhibitions including Good Design Select, spotlighting Chinese design, WellConnect, showcasing wellness design, and IDEA Box, which explores lifestyle products.

The event's forum will address this year's theme through speakers discussing topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), advances in the building industry and modern cities.

Michaël Borremans: The Promise
22 March to 14 May 2024, Shanghai

Prada will host Michaël Borremans' exhibition The Promise at Rong Zhai, a cultural space in a historical Shanghai residence that was renovated by the brand in 2017.

The Promise, which marks the Belgian artist's first solo exhibition in China, will feature 23 paintings and one film exploring absurdity, dreamlike atmospheres and the human condition.

Some of the key works on display include Mask (2008), Missile (2017), Alien (2018) and Coloured Cones (2019).

China International Furniture Fair Guangzhou
28 to 31 March 2024, Guangzhou

The largest exhibition dedicated to the furniture manufacturing industry in China – China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) – returns to Guangzhou this year.

The trade fair will showcase contemporary solutions in the production of machinery, materials and components for the furniture industry, and explore the latest trends in the field.

Under the theme Throughout Upstream and Downstream, Link to A New Future, this year's event comprises three main sections – Materials, Hardware and Machinery.
