IKEA launches first pet range Utsådd for "eating, sleeping, playing and hiding"

Swedish furniture brand IKEA has partnered with rehoming centre Woodgreen Pets Charity to launch its first product range for pets, which includes rattan beds and patterned soft toys.

Comprising 29 pieces, the Utsådd collection is based on the "four most common activities that cats and dogs do in the home – eating, sleeping, playing and hiding", said IKEA.

"Our goal was to develop a collection of products that our cats and dogs love and that their human parents can feel good about and truly enjoy having as part of their home," said IKEA commercial manager Michaela Quinlan.

The Utsådd collection also aims to support the charity's mission to provide safe shelter for the animals, following a 62 per cent increase in abandoned pets at the Woodgreen Pets Charity's rehoming centre in 2023.

"We hope this partnership not only raises awareness of adoptions but also provides solutions and inspiration of how to create a comfortable living space for furry companions," added Quinlan.

As part of the launch, IKEA is showcasing the products in two catalogues, named the "Cat-alogue" and "Dog-alogue". Among them are cat and dog beds, scratching posts, blankets, pet bowls and toys, each photographed with animals from the rehoming centre.

Among the products featured in the Cat-alogue is a pitched-roof cat bed, as well as a raised cat house made from rattan and finished with a patterned white and blue cushion.

Meanwhile the Dog-alogue showcases a series of soft toys, including one that is bone-shaped, one with a yellow pattern and another circular blue version. There is also a rattan dog bed.

All furniture featured in the collection's catalogues has been donated to Woodgreen Pets Charity.

"Every pet deserves a loving home where they feel safe and happy," said the charity's head of specialist services Fiona Cooke.

"It's so important that dogs and cats have spaces to rest and call their own, as well as opportunities to play and have fun – both during their time with us at Woodgreen, and when they move on to their new homes," Cooke added.

"We're absolutely delighted to be partnering with IKEA to raise awareness of what we do, and celebrate rescue pets of all shapes and sizes!"
