Jony Ive decorates Moncler outerwear collection with New York symbols

Designer Jony Ive's studio LoveFrom has created its second collection for fashion brand Moncler, using symbols including its signature bear climbing the Empire State Building to celebrate the brand's flagship New York store.

The collection is organised around the down-filled Moncore jacket, which can be complemented by three interchangeable outer layers.

Users can add three different layers over a down-filled base jacket

These consist of a parka, poncho and field jacket, which can be attached to the Moncore jacket using a magnetic Duo Button that Ive originally designed for the first LoveFrom Moncler collection.

The pieces, which have a soft beige colour, are made from recycled nylon. Their yarn-dyed fibres were air-textured to create a "soft, matte finish", the brand said.

Moncler weaves the fabric on extra-wide looms so each garment can be cut from a single continuous panel of fabric.

The LoveFrom-designed collection will launch exclusively at Moncler's new flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, the brand's largest ever, before being released globally.

To celebrate the city, Ive designed limited-edition New York City-inspired patches that can be added to the jackets – a yellow taxi, a guitar case, a drum set, an apple, a vinyl record and a bear paw print, nodding to LoveFrom's bear logo.

The collection also features a patch with a bear climbing the Empire State Building, and its packaging includes a set of nine New York-themed postcards.

Ive described working with Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini as "inspiring".

"Working with Remo is uniquely inspiring," Ive told Dezeen. "His understanding of the relationship between design, culture and place is extraordinary. It is an honour to make a small contribution to mark such a significant moment for Moncler in New York."

Ruffini has previously said of working with Ive that he "takes you out of the ordinary".

"Working with Jony is also an experience because you realise that love, friendship and respect are always at the centre and enable creativity and ideas," he said.

Ive is best known for his designs for technology brand Apple, but since leaving it in 2019, he has designed products in a number of different fields. Earlier this year, we rounded up nine of his non-Apple projects and revealed his and Marc Newson's design for the first electric Ferrari.
