Dezeen Showroom: ITO Design let function drive form when creating this task chair, which features a distinctive sculptural back, for office brand Narbutas.
The Silora chair features a striking backrest, with two petals that wrap around from the front, continuing the organic curve of the seating design's adaptive dual lumbar support.
The chair is intended to combine aesthetics and ergonomics, in response to demand for workspaces that are cosier and less formal than their predecessors.
"The Silora chair's design is driven by function – its asymmetric lumbar support frame becomes the basis for its distinctive form," said ITO Design.
"By wrapping the mesh around the structure, the design conceals technical complexity while maintaining visual interest, resulting in a unique, refined 3D backrest shape."
In addition to the heigh-adjustable lumbar support, the Silora chair includes a synchronous mechanism with five locking positions for the seat and backrest, a forward tilt mechanism that encourages more active sitting, and 2D or 3D adjustable armrests.
The seat and backrest are available in a range of fabric options, including Narbutas' new 3D Rhythm mesh, which has a soft, three-dimensional texture and comes in a sophisticated palette of darker colours.
