Dezeen Showroom: Italian furniture brand Flexform has showcased a selection of its seating on Dezeen Showroom, including new designs by Antonio Citterio and Monica Armani.
Among the featured products is the Groundpiece sofa, created by architect-turned-industrial designer Citterio and featuring console-like armrests that double as side tables and shelving.
Originally created in 2001, the brand describes the sofa as a classic that responds to the demands of contemporary living by facilitating sprawling and relaxation as well as occasional working and dining.
Ample goose down cushions and optional metal or cowhide-upholstered armrest units finish the Groundpiece sofa, giving it an elegant, textured materiality.
Another Citterio design is the Oasis outdoor seating system, which updates the look of traditional woven Mediterranean furniture with modularity, modern lightness and durable, waterproof polypropylene cord.
Released in 2024, the system is adaptable to both small and large outdoor spaces, and Citterio describes the generously proportioned, basket-like seating as "an invitation to relax in harmony with nature".
Launched this year for interiors is Citterio's Quincy seating system, which is about curvilinear, organic shapes, softened angles and smooth intersections.
The configurable sofa's plump, down-filled cushions tuck under the sinuous backrest – a design feature that is highlighted at the seating's edges, where the cushions neatly slot into a sculpted recess as if completing a jigsaw.
Another new design comes from the Italian architect Monica Armani, whose Margherì collection is a charismatic range of outdoor seating that references Art Nouveau aesthetics.
Margherì includes dining chairs, sofas, sun loungers and daybeds, all with stainless steel frames curved into petal-like shapes, evoking an era of artistry and bohemian elegance.
Finally, a design intended to combine elegance and modularity for the home is Citterio's 2024 Camelot seating system, configurable in a wide range of compositions.
Its plump cushions with contrast piping and minimal wood-and-metal frame create pleasing tactility and invite repose, while optional leather detailing recalls luxury tailoring.
Flexform was founded in 1959 in the furniture-making Brianza area of Italy by the Galimberti family, who still run it today.
The company's historic collaborations include the leading Italian design figures Joe Colombo, Cini Boeri and Rodolfo Bonetto, and it has been working with Citterio, who was born in the nearby town of Meda, since the 1970s.
