Remode task chair by Ben van Berkel for Ahrend
Dezeen Showroom: architect Ben van Berkel, founder of UNS, worked with Dutch office furniture brand Ahrend on a task chair that takes cues from the colourful and ergonomic nature of athletic footwear.
The Remode office chair is fully modular – meaning it can be disassembled and its parts replaced to extend its lifespan – with all components made from 50 per cent recycled materials.

Van Berkel looked to the world of footwear design to inform the chair, noting that the product category is colourful, supports the body for active movement, and is often at the forefront of new material technologies.
Similarly, Remode supports dynamic movement and long-term comfort through ergonomic features such as a synchro-motion mechanism with optional fine-tuning and adjustable seat depth, lumbar support and armrests.

"We had a common interest, Ahrend and UNS, in the way how we could enrich sustainable design," said van Berkel. "Ahrend was interested in making the most sustainable, new, contemporary and most iconographic-looking chair."
The chair's material composition includes Envalior's Akulon RePurposed polyamide, which is made from discarded fishing nets.
It comes in three colourways, and it is around 30 per cent lighter than the average task chair thanks to the use of hollow structures and material efficiency.
