Shekou Culture and Sports Park
Tanghua Architects has designed the Shekou Culture and Sports Park, a community cultural and sports project in the subtropical city of Shenzhen, China.
Located on reclaimed land and surrounded by dense housing, the Shekou Culture and Sports Park is equally divided into a landscaped park and a modernist building.
The park features meandering paths, lawns and shaded plazas, welcoming diverse public use.
The building, suited to Southern China's climate, employs layered horizontal planes to invite the exterior park view into its interior, providing publicly accessible spaces that are naturally ventilated and programmatically flexible.
Architecturally modern yet recalling traditional pavilions, this project provides various programs under an open and absorbing structure for the public.
Since opening, the park has become a vibrant community hub, supporting both daily leisure and diverse programs for locals and visitors alike.
This project has been shortlisted in the public project (sports, hospitality and entertainment) category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
