Yuan Chair
Kirin + Lab has designed Yuan Chair, a furniture collection inspired by the traditional Chinese drum stool.
The Yuan Chair is a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Chinese drum stool, creatively merging cultural heritage with contemporary design.
Inspired by the motifs of 天圓地方 (Heaven and Earth) and 陰陽兩儀 (Yin and Yang), this chair features two complementary designs – one solid and one void –symbolising balance and harmony.
The unique circular top transitions into a square body, showcasing an intricate, continuous coin pattern that represents wealth and fortune.
Due to the intricate, continuous pattern on the Yuan Chair, it cannot be assembled in parts; it must be produced as a single piece.
The chair is crafted using 3D printing with resin, ensuring a seamless engraving of the pattern.
This innovative approach not only highlights the fusion of digital fabrication and handcrafted techniques but also emphasises sustainability by minimising material waste.
The Yuan Chair stands as a testament to the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity, making it a striking addition to any space.
