Heshì
Xiang Studio has renovated the interiors of Heshì, an interior renovation design for a 70-square-metre old residence in Beijing, China.
"Heshì" (Integrated Room) is an interior renovation of the architect's own residence that caters to him and his wife, who both work in the media and needed independent workstations due to home-office needs.
The design originates from tectonic thinking, abstracting functions and forms into three elements – stick, slab and block.
Through their harmonious combination in the construction process, materials are utilised to shape the space.
While meeting functional needs, it breaks the constraints of the original layout, integrating isolated spaces and interfaces into an interconnected whole.
Within an ordered framework, it crafts a dynamic, layered and ever-shifting space, aiming to allow an architectural perspective to be experienced within the interior.
This project has been shortlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
