X+Living has designed the interiors of Tianjin Zhongshuge, a bookstore in Tianjin, China.
Commissioned by Tianjin Hebei District Industry Development Group and Shanghai Zhongshu Industry, X+Living transformed a modern building in Tianjin’s historic Italian-style district, which is known for its century-old red-brick buildings, into a bookstore.
Inspired by the blinds, the designer observes a cutting technique in the overlapping structure of the blinds and translates it into the construction order of brick architecture.
The red brick serves as a tribute to classical Italian aesthetics, while its use in innovative construction language enables a contemporary design expression.
The project's uniqueness and integration are precisely reflected in this aspect, reimagining the classic red-brick architecture through innovative expression, creating a space that embodies both cultural and public attributes.
This project has been shortlisted in the retail interior (large) category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
