Competition overview
Buildner, in partnership with the Mujassam Watan Initiative, invites architects and artists from around the world to participate in the eighth edition of the Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge.
The competition provides an international platform for creative professionals to propose architectural sculptures that contribute meaningfully to public space, reflect cultural identity and engage with the contemporary urban environment.
Participants are invited to select one of two carefully chosen sites in Saudi Arabia, each offering a distinct spatial and cultural context.
The competition encourages site-specific responses that address the character, scale and atmosphere of the chosen location, while exploring the role of architectural sculpture within Saudi Arabia's evolving public realm.
The competition features a total prize fund of €50,000, divided equally between the two sites. For each location, the first prize winner will receive €12,000, the second prize €8,000 and the third prize €5,000.
Selected winning proposals will be considered for potential construction, offering participants the opportunity to see their designs realised as part of Saudi Arabia's expanding public art and architectural landscape.
Eligibility and judging criteria
The competition is open to all.
Participants are required to upload four A2 landscape-oriented presentation boards as a visual representation of their proposal.
No video files are accepted, and all information provided must be in English.
Proposals will be judged on six requirements:
- site integration
- concept designs
- plans and perspectives
- feasibility
- construction and materials
- visualisations

Participants must upload proposals via the online upload panel by 23 July 2026.
Submission deadlines
The final registration deadline is 23 July 2026, and the submission deadline is 27 August 2026.
Winners will be announced on 1 October 2026.
