Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN
Dezeen Competitions: the Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN is seeking projects that incorporate BlueScope steel solutions into their design.
Project must be located in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam. This is the second edition of the awards, which follows on from the first in 2024.

Competition overview
The Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN 2026 seeks built projects that incorporate BlueScope steel solutions into their design. Projects must be located in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam.
The competition follows a two-stage awards pathway, beginning at the country level and culminating in ASEAN-level recognition. There will be four building categories: Industrial, Commercial, Residential, and Institutional, Public and Others.
The programme opens with Country Awards in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. At this stage, from April 2026 to August 2026, completed built projects are submitted and assessed through national appraisal processes led by local architectural partners.
These Country Awards are awarded in August to September 2026, to the most outstanding projects within each participating market. Winners from each country then progress to become ASEAN finalists.
These finalists advance to the regional stage, where they are reviewed collectively by a distinguished ASEAN-level judge in October 2026. The winners will be announced in the award ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2026.
The winner will receive a trophy, certificate and a one-week learning and sharing trip to Australia.
Eligibility and judging criteria
All architects are eligible to apply.
Buildings must be located in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam. They also must incorporate BlueScope steel solutions, especially Colorbond steel products.
The projects will be marked on:
- 50 per cent in design excellence, including design concept and clarity, contextual responsiveness, versatile and technical resolution
- 30 per cent innovation, including functional use of coated steel, technical ingenuity and detailing, performance-driven steel design
- 20 per cent in sustainability, including energy-efficient design strategies, climate-responsible architecture, material durability and lifecycle performance
Submission deadlines
The submission deadline differs from country to country.
In Indonesia, it is 30 May, whilst in Thailand it is 30 June. Malaysia's deadline is mid-July, whilst Vietnam's is 28 June.
The winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand, on 19 November 2026.
