Sculptor Michael Rex presents A Forest of Colors at Philadelphia cafe and gallery Frieda, an exhibition featuring colourful wire pieces.
The biomorphic sculptures are made from anodised aluminium or copper wire to create flowing structures that seemingly change in different lighting, informed by organic and fluid forms found in the natural environment.
The structures are made from 14–20-gauge wire that is continuously looped, with the artist mimicking the shapes he'd see his family make when knitting.
On evenings, the installation expands to the venue's walls, as intricate shadows are cast on surfaces when the pieces are lit.
A Closer Look: Michael Rex takes place from 1 May to 30 August 2026 at Frieda, 320 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19106, USA.
