Want to better understand cities through data, create engaging maps and open new directions in your career? GIS and Spatial Analysis for Urbanists is a six-week online course for architects, designers and creative professionals.

It is particularly relevant to architects moving into urban design or planning, urban professionals who want to work with spatial data, and designers and illustrators seeking to create accurate, engaging maps.

Using QGIS, free and open-source GIS software, participants learn to source, manage and analyse data relating to accessibility, mobility, public space, climate and demographics, then transform their findings into visual narratives.

A 2026 study of over 16,000 planning job adverts found steady employer demand for GIS skills. No previous GIS experience or coding knowledge is required.

Practical exercises lead to a portfolio-ready project. Participants receive a certificate and gain skills to highlight on their CV and in job applications.

Run by the GeoSpatial Hub, powered by All Things Urban, the course is led by GIS expert Juan Pablo Corral.
