Promotion: Trimble SketchUp will bring its 3D Basecamp Summit to Las Vegas, exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) and reality capture are changing the way projects are designed, visualised and built.

Taking place from 9 to 11 November at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, the 3D Basecamp Summit will form part of Trimble Dimensions, a conference bringing together users of Trimble's technology across architecture, engineering and construction.

The three-day event will focus on the increasingly connected workflow between a designer's digital toolkit and the physical building site, combining hands-on workshops, technical sessions and talks from designers and industry experts.

One of the biggest themes will be the use of AI as a design tool, with sessions exploring how generative AI can automate repetitive modelling tasks while allowing designers to retain control over their work.

The programme will also look at how sketches and images can be converted into editable 3D geometry and how natural-language prompts can be used to generate models and tools.

The summit will examine how existing buildings can be brought into digital design workflows through reality capture such as scan-to-BIM, a process that uses scanning technology such as LiDAR to capture an existing physical environment and turn it into a digital model. This information can then be used alongside architectural models, connecting measurements taken on site with work being developed in the studio.

The summit will demonstrate how these models can move between the building site and design studio, rather than leaving information locked in separate silos.

The programme also covers interoperability between design, engineering and fabrication software, alongside extensions and coding that allow practices to customise their workflows.

Among the speakers is London-based interior designer Tola Ojuolape, who will discuss how she uses SketchUp to translate digital interiors into physical, material-led installations.

Ojuolape previously collaborated with Dezeen and SketchUp on a Design Workshop, using the software to develop a fictional three-storey library in London's Clerkenwell.

Other speakers include Jason Li of global workplace design practice M Moser and urban planner Devin Lavigne of Houseal Lavigne.

The summit will also include a panel moderated by Dezeen co-CEO Benedict Hobson, bringing together Ojuolape, M Moser and Programa to discuss the use of digital tools in commercial interiors and retail design.

The event will also feature the SketchUp Ascent Competition, where students and educators will present their 3D modelling projects live, with finalists pitching their work to an audience at Trimble Dimensions.

SketchUp is a 3D modelling platform used across architecture, interior design, engineering and construction. Trimble, which acquired SketchUp in 2012, develops software and hardware used across the built environment, including technologies for surveying, design, construction and asset management.

The 2026 3D Basecamp Summit takes place from 9 to 11 November at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas and registration is now open.
