School statement:

"The School of Industrial Design at Georgia Tech prepares students to address complex societal and innovation challenges through the integration of design, research and technology.

"As one of the world's leading research universities, we view industrial design as a discipline that generates knowledge and creates solutions.

"Our students and faculty explore the relationships among people, technology, society and business, using research to inform innovation and improve lives.

"Through collaboration across disciplines, students learn to navigate complexity and create solutions that are technically feasible and socially meaningful.

"Our programmes combine the creative foundations of design with research, technological fluency and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students learn to understand human needs, translate insights into action and develop meaningful solutions.

"The School of Industrial Design offers bachelor's and master's degrees, and our new PhD in integrated design and computing. Our programmes are recognised as human-centred technology design STEM degrees.

"The inherently interdisciplinary nature of design thinking and design research, combined with students' diverse academic and professional backgrounds, creates an educationally rich environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

"Our curriculum fortifies the designer's role in humanising connections between people and technology, with a focus on the areas of interaction design, healthcare design, service design, product design and user-experience research."

Fresh! Bicycle by Aiden Soriano, Futa Kakinuma, Han Zheng, Leif Horn and Vu Ly

Fresh! Bicycle by Aiden Soriano, Futa Kakinuma, Han Zheng, Leif Horn and Vu Ly

"The Fresh! Bicycle is a novel electric bicycle that transforms into a shopping platform.

"By enabling the bike to fold to nearly half its size, we address the issue of excessive lateral space when parked. This compact form makes Fresh! easier to store, park and navigate within tight urban environments.

"Fresh! streamlines shopping into a simple in-and-out experience. Instead of leaving products exposed, the bike keeps groceries safe, visible and directly in front of the rider.

"Fresh! affords freedom to move between stores or to a picnic without constantly loading and unloading items, expanding use beyond a single grocery trip."

Ducati Pen by Vu Ly

Ducati Pen by Vu Ly

"'In lightness, my strength,' is Ducati's motto, embodying its relentless pursuit of style, sophistication and performance.

"The Ducati Trio Draft translates superbike architecture into an advanced three-in-one multi-pen and pencil."

Mobster Wet/Dry Vac for Ridgid by Yhali Sheba

Mobster Wet/Dry Vac for Ridgid by Yhali Sheba

"The Mobster Wet/Dry Vacuum for Ridgid presents a unique and innovative 'upside-down' concept for job site cleaning.

"By moving the motor to the bottom of the unit, the drum can be modularised to fit varying capacities.

"Additionally, the Mobster has a trash hatch on the lid, allowing workers to toss in debris that may be too big for a vacuum hose to handle."

Cadence Bicycle by Aisling Mahony, Estelle Cole, Serena McGuinn and Yhali Sheba

Cadence Bicycle by Aisling Mahony, Estelle Cole, Serena McGuinn and Yhali Sheba

"Cadence is an electrically-assisted shared-use bicycle that incorporates music to build community.

"With an adaptive digital audio system, it allows you to mix music with friends and other bikers as you ride. Cadence transforms the experience of bike rental, taking it from transportation to a journey riders look forward to.

"Additionally, Cadence enables ride adaptability with the inclusion of a rear seat and fold-down footrest, allowing riders to use the bike beyond their ride during standstill moments and retaining it throughout the whole trip."

Pik Bicycle by Arya Deshmukh, Cierra Langer, Kesiah Munyaruganda and Mia Wood

Pik Bicycle by Arya Deshmukh, Cierra Langer, Kesiah Munyaruganda and Mia Wood

"The Pik Bicycle began as an exploration of shared mobility and became an argument for belonging. By treating the bike as a canvas rather than a commodity, we designed a system that adapts to people, stories and cities in motion.

"This project shows that shared transportation doesn't have to feel anonymous.

"Pik is built around choice and adaptability, reflecting how riders pick their mode  – solo, shared or cargo – while the lighting system enables personal expression.

"Combined with ride documentation, the brand turns each trip into a personal and memorable experience. Your Pik is a piece of you."

Scrapling by Feiyang Liu

Scrapling by Feiyang Liu

"Scrapling is a hybrid mobile game designed to help people understand sustainability through everyday interaction.

"The core concept centres on by-product circulation – the idea that materials often considered waste in production systems still hold value and potential.

"In the game, industrial by-products are personified as collectable characters called Scraplings. Each Scrapling represents a real-world by-product (e.g., wood residue, fly ash, whey) and interacts with the player through short dialogue-based quiz questions."

Oris by Vedant Kulkarni

Oris by Vedant Kulkarni

"Oris reframes outdoor safety as a continuous, ambient layer of protection rather than a reactive tool of last resort. The device monitors movement, heart rate and location, initiating an alert sequence if prolonged inactivity is detected during a trek.

"This escalating model, progressing from haptic check-in to emergency beacon, transforms Oris from passive monitor to active guardian."

Co Auronix by Yuanxiang Guo

Co Auronix by Yuanxiang Guo

"Co Auronix is an aftermarket control accessory for touchscreen vehicle human-machine interfaces that enables more convenient long-form audio listening and control while driving.

"Co Auronix demonstrates how a dedicated tangible interface can reduce visual demand, support safer driver behaviour and enhance the overall in-car listening experience.

"This design contributes to the broader discussion of automotive human-machine interaction by presenting an alternative to touchscreen-dominant systems, emphasising the value of tactile interaction for emerging in-car media experiences."

OrthoCore by Ruijie Jin

OrthoCore by Ruijie Jin

"Access to effective rehabilitation is limited by high costs, workforce shortages and insufficient therapy intensity, while existing robotic systems remain inaccessible due to their expense and complexity.

"OrthoCore presents an open-source modular rehabilitation robotics platform that integrates robotic joint modules, a guided parametric interface and customisable 3D-printed components to support personalised therapy."

Somna by Yunhao Hua

Somna by Yunhao Hua

"Somna proposes a reimagined sleep-support device as a day-night emotional anchor system that bridges daytime awareness and nighttime support.

"Rather than functioning as a passive sound masker, the system encourages users to intentionally record meaningful environmental moments during daily routines.

"These self-curated sounds are later replayed during periods of nighttime rumination, fostering a sense of familiarity, emotional grounding and continuity in lived experience.

"By transforming everyday auditory moments into personalised emotional anchors, the design supports subtle, non-clinical emotional regulation and redefines the role of sleep-aid sound devices from functional tools to experience-driven companions."
