In other news, the RIBA announced the shortlist for this year's Stirling Prize, with nominations for a renovated castle, a stone chapel, two housing developments, a medical school and a visitor centre for a volcanically formed causeway.
OMA had a busy week, seeing off rivals BIG to land the high-profile commission to overhaul the Miami Beach Convention Center, as well as winning a competition for a major mixed-use development in Santa Monica.
We also unveiled images of several new projects by Zaha Hadid Architects, including a mountain museum underway in Italy, a university building near completion in Hong Kong and an 11-storey apartment block for beside New York's High Line.
In London, an exhibition opened celebrating the life and career of British architect Richard Rogers. We caught up with Rogers, who told us that architects "have a responsibility to society" that has been eroded in "an age of greed".
The most popular architecture stories of the week featured a pair of Japanese houses. One is only 2.7 metres wide, while the other has a facade designed to look like a picture frame.
