BCW Collective has created a shelter in the Italian Alps that works to minimise environmental impact with structural design techniques.

The project sits hovering over a rock slab in Valle d'Aosta within the mountain pastures of the Brédy family and was designed to represent a balance between the interpretation and the preservation of the landscape. As a result, the structure is evocative and not hidden, yet at the same time light and reversible.

The shelter is designed to minimise environmental impact by focusing on durability in high-altitude conditions, and also on circularity in its 'leave no trace' design-for-disassembly approach.  The interior space is optimized for maximum functionality, focusing on the view of the surrounding mountain context, while the the hut was entirely prefabricated in the valley and assembled on site in just a few days.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
