River Residence
OhStudio has designed River Residence, a residential interior design project along the Pearl River in Guangzhou, China.
Situated along Guangzhou's Pearl River, this project reimagines a conventional condominium as a rural-inspired sanctuary for an artist captivated by Neoclassical order and the atmospheric qualities of impressionist light.
The design carefully negotiates between historical depth and contemporary clarity, using raw timber, in-situ concrete and pure lime plaster to establish a tactile and non-toxic material presence seldom seen in the region.
Sculptural, curvilinear forms shape multifunctional zones within a compact footprint, their organic outlines reflecting the client's painterly abstractions.
Natural light, airflow and shadow are choreographed to animate daily and seasonal rhythms, framing the river's shifting landscape as a living canvas.
Guided by a sustainable ethos, this project avoids transient, surface-driven interiors in favour of enduring simplicity.
The result is a refined, sustainable living environment where contemporary craftsmanship, natural materials and intuitive spatiality converge to quietly elevate daily life.
This project has been shortlisted in the home interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
