Tree Window
StudioX4 Interior Architects has designed the interiors of Tree Window, an apartment in Taipei City, Taiwan.
This project reinterprets the traditional Chinese landscape technique of "borrowed scenery", integrating nature into a modern living space, where treetop views are framed by pine-veneering, bringing urban vitality indoors.
A circular niche with a glass backsplash reflects outdoor scenes, adding a contemporary twist to classical aesthetics.
Responding to natural variations of light and shadow, the reflected scenery shifts with the seasons.
Grey tones paired with wood textures evoke the feel of natural rocks, while a slash-positioned wall with a hidden cabinet subtly separates living and rest areas and clean lines and open sightlines create a sense of spaciousness.
Essentially, the "borrowed scenery" technique organises the scenery and brings the visible range into the space, one of the most commonly used landscaping techniques back in ancient times.
This project has been shortlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
