Winner: Small project of the year 2025. GN Architects has designed Seaside Pavilion on Chai Shan Island, a small building on an abandoned dock in Zhoushan, China.

After most people on Chai Shan Island left to live in the cities, there are currently fewer than 100 elderly people living there permanently.

As a result, the Hello Island international design competition for public buildings and art installations was launched to revitalise the development of the island and promote the growth of tourism and culture.

As the first implemented project, the Seaside Pavilion hopes to bring some romance to the simple life on the small island and to interpret life and some unpredictable changes poetically and realistically in the context of changing times.

Beyond restoring the old pier, the pavilion provides a public space for islanders and tourists to rest, fish and connect, embodying Gangli Village's cultural memory of "establishing a pier" to welcome guests.
