GN Architects has designed the Seaside Pavilion, a countryside public space on Chai Shan Island, Zhoushan City, China.
After most of the people on Chai Shan Island left the island to live in the cities, there are currently fewer than 100 elderly people living there permanently.
As a result, the Hello Island international design competition for public buildings and art installations was launched to revitalise the development of the island and promote the growth of tourism and culture.
As the first implemented project, the Seaside Pavilion hopes to bring some romance to the simple life on the small island, and to interpret life and some unpredictable changes poetically and realistically in the context of changing times.
This project has been longlisted in the small project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
