Dezeen Competitions: Enel has launched a competition calling designers to rethink wind turbine aesthetics. The competition's deadlines have been extended, giving more opportunities to applicants worldwide.
WinDesign by Enel is a bid to find innovative solutions that integrate with the landscape. It is open to architectural firms, engineering companies, start-ups, universities and students from all over the world.

Judges:
- Phase one will be judged by a panel composed of experts and professionals from Enel Group
- Phase two will be judged by a jury of employees, directors and/or representatives of Enel Group companies
Submission deadline: 30 August 2025
Winner announcement: will be announced between December 2025 to January 2026
Prizes: The winner will receive €250,000, the runner-up €150,000, and the third placed entry €50,000.
There will also be special awards of €15,000 for the best projects in terms of design, technical and economic feasibility, and innovation and sustainability
Competition overview
The competition calls for wind turbine designs that comply with the industry's technical regulations and standards: three-blade rotor turbines, combining the most efficient and suitable solution with the least environmental impact.
In addition to their innovation and sustainability, proposals will be evaluated in terms of their design, technical and economic feasibility.
Eligibility and judging criteria
The contest is open to international experts in architecture, engineering, design, as well as enterprises, start-ups, research institutions, students and universities.
Proposed solutions for new wind turbine designs must be developed in accordance with the current regulations and technical standards applicable.
The proposals will be evaluated across the following main areas of interest:
- Design: enhancement of design, novelty, visual, aesthetic, environmental impact and landscape integration
- Technical and economic feasibility: the timing of detailed design and implementation
- Innovation and sustainability: innovative degree, sustainability aspects and low carbon impact on the life cycle of the solution proposed

Submission deadlines
Participants are invited to present their preliminary ideas by 30 August.
By September, a panel composed of experts and professionals from within Enel Group will select candidates who will proceed to Phase Two.
Phase Two's submission deadline is 29 November.
A jury of academics and Enel experts will decide the winners, who will be announced between December 2025 and January 2026.
