BA Design at Vilnius Academy of Arts

The BA Design course at Vilnius Academy of Arts introduces students to critical design practices that address social and economic topics through experience and context.

The BA Design programme offers an exclusive focus on the individual and cultural dimensions of product design. It goes beyond addressing functional, technological and aesthetic challenges to emphasise understanding the needs and experiences of individuals (and other life forms).

The programme fosters critical thinking about consumer culture, encourages conceptual exploration, and supports the development of each student's unique creative identity.

Our aim is to educate future product designers – creative, critically minded individuals with broad perspectives, capable of developing innovative design concepts, distinctive products and competitive solutions. Graduates will be equipped to address real-world challenges related to individual, cultural, functional and economic needs.

The curriculum imparts theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as essential research skills, preparing students for professional practice or advanced master's studies.

Design studies are rooted in hands-on, experimental projects, supported by design research, theoretical coursework, personalised mentorship, and critical feedback. Students learn to analyse and solve functional and cultural design problems while considering environmental sustainability.

Their projects often gain international recognition, win prestigious design awards, become commercially successful products, or inspire independent creative careers.
