Postgraduate in 3D-printing Architecture at IAAC

The Postgraduate in 3D-printing Architecture course at IAAC supports students in creating large-scale architectural prototypes through the use of digital construction techniques.

School: IAAC
Course: Postgraduate in 3D-printing Architecture
Location: Barcelona and Collserola Natural Park, Spain
Course dates: September 2025 to February 2026
Application deadline: 9 August 2025

The Postgraduate in 3D-printing Architecture is a six-month applied research programme focussing on digital construction, large-scale additive manufacturing and material innovation. Based between IAAC's campus in Poblenou and the Valldaura Labs forest campus, the course combines design experimentation with full-scale prototyping.

Structured in three phases – learn, explore and demonstrate – students engage with parametric modelling, robotic 3D-printing, material research and environmental simulation. The programme culminates in the construction of a one-to-one prototype using sustainable materials and advanced fabrication techniques.

Participants work with custom hardware and software developed in collaboration with WASP, and gain hands-on experience with extrusion systems, G-code generation, sensor integration and digital craft workflows. Projects are rooted in real-world construction challenges, with a strong focus on architecture that responds to ecological and social demands.

The Postgraduate in 3D-printing Architecture brings together architects, engineers, designers and scientists to rethink how we design and build. It's an intensive format that prioritises making over theory and direct experimentation over abstraction.

Set against the backdrop of Barcelona, the World Capital of Architecture 2026, the programme also includes a scholarship scheme covering 30 per cent to 50 per cent of tuition fees, aimed at supporting access to this next-generation approach to building.

Applications to this course have now closed.
