Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao has been commissioned by Australian beauty brand Mecca to create an installation for the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
The installation, titled La ropa sucia se lava en casa (Dirty clothes are washed at home), explores inequalities within domestic work.
The installation features a concrete washbasin and textiles created in workshops in Mexico City, Berlin and Melbourne.
Mecca has partnered with the NGV to present the five-year Women in Design Commission, which each year will select a woman working in design or architecture to create a project for the gallery.
Mecca X NGV Women in Design Commission takes place from 6 October 2022 to 29 January 2023 at the National Gallery of Victoria, 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, Victoria 3006, Australia.
