    Gravity stool by Jólan van der Wiel wins [D3] Contest at imm cologne


    Dezeen Wire:
    designer Jólan van der Wiel has won the €3000 first prize in the [D3] Contest for young designers at trade fair imm cologne in Germany for his Gravity Stool shaped by magnets. He showed the machine used to make the pieces at Dezeen Platform in September and you can watch it in action in our movies on Dezeen Screen.

    The second prize of €2000 was awarded to Lee Sanghyeok for his Listen to Your Hands Table and the third prize of €1000 went to Marc Bell & Robin Grasby for the Apollo lamp.

    Isi Metzstein (1920 - 2012)

    Scottish architect Isi Metzstein, who was awarded the Royal Scottish Academy Gold Medal for Architecture in 1975, has died at the age of 83- BBC News

    Metzstein worked for Scottish firm Gillespie Kidd & Coia and also taught at the Glasgow School of Art.

    Studio Job forced to alter plans for Holocaust-themed fence

    artists Studio Job have been forced to amend controversial designs for a fence to a private estate that intentionally resembles the gates of a Nazi concentration camp where over 50,000 people died during World War II - Co.Design

    The is the second set of contentious proposals to come from the Netherlands in recent months, following proposals by architects MVRDV for skyscrapers that look like the exploding World Trade Centre on 9/11.

    Jonathan Ive, senior vice president of industrial design at Apple, has been awarded a KBE on the 2012 New Year Honours list, published today, for services to design and enterprise.

    Australian designer Marc Newson has been awarded a CBE for services to design in the UK and worldwide.

    Architect John McAslan and founder of Open-City Victoria Thornton were both awarded an OBE for services to architecture.
