To coincide with Icelandic design festival DesignMarch, which began in Reykjavik yesterday, here are some parchment gas masks by Reykjavik designer Sruli Recht.

Called Masked – In Flight, the masks are made of folded parchment and contain respirators with replaceable filters.

They form part of the Non-Product series of objects from Recht’s fashion studio.

DesignMarch continues until 21 March.
Here’s a little text from Recht:
Masked – In Flight,
Is an upcoming Non-Product, for sleeping and breathing.
A set of four travel masks from folded parchment with functional air-purifying grill format respirators and replaceable-cartridge white N95 filters.

…or burka accessory!
I love the simplicity of these.

this paper mask malarky is RUBBISH!
They seem to be made from parchment, which is leather not paper.
Perfect, I had been looking for a stylish Hanibal mask for a while now!
nice bra……
The child inside me wants to go out and make these and imagine myself as a ninja… The adult too. Id like to make one, even if it didnt functionally work.
theyre nice and kinky
in a diamonds and cashmere rather than black rubber sorta way
nice photography.. so…why are we making masks? for bicycle riding?
A bride for Darth Vader……
IS there anybody on this website that actually read product description ? or is it beyond the “design enthusiast” capabilities ?
Those comments are depressing.
Isn’t this supposed to be a comment forum for design commentary and constructive feedback?
Half of these comments are worth of youtube. You people have too much time on your hands.
If only Dezeen had more time to moderate.
And in what way Jean, does reading the product description alter anything?
To jean biche and von – Yes I did read the description and I restate it here:
“…is an upcoming Non-Product, for sleeping and breathing.
A set of four travel masks from folded parchment with functional air-purifying grill format respirators and replaceable-cartridge white N95 filters.”
Is there any wonder that such a design meets with the derision that it deserves. I mean, the very term… ‘non-product’ – purleeeez! And if we really need such devices as a ‘travel mask’ it begs the question of just what is our world coming to.
I like it, its a pleasure to watch beautiful objects.
