This week Dezeen has been reporting from the Venice Architecture Biennale, where biennale director David Chipperfield urged architects to shun stardom and focus on schools and housing, Wolf D. Prix launched a scathing attack on the whole event, and rumours spread that Rem Koolhaas will be director next time around.
Justin McGuirk, Iwan Bann and Urban-Think Tank won a Golden Lion for best project with their installation (pictured, top) about a vertical slum in Venezuela, the Japanese Pavilion (above) curated by Toyo Ito won best pavilion and Álvaro Siza was awarded the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement. Meanwhile Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (pictured above, right) announced plans for a new headquarters designed by Frank Gehry (above, left) and Daniel Libeskind was selected to design a peace centre on the site of the notorious former Maze prison in Northern Ireland.
In London the Paralympics began on Wednesday so we've been featuring sporting equipment designed for Paralympic athletes, including spikes worn by “Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius (above), racing wheelchairs (below) and specially adapted rowing boats.
