We've been reflecting on Milan design week, with designers including Yves Behar, Konstantin Grcic, Ron Arad and Stephen Burks discussing whether Milan can retain its importance in our latest Dezeen and MINI World Tour report. The UK government's redesigned website was named Design of the Year in a ceremony at the Design Museum, before being called "boring" and "basic-looking" by Mail Online.
Thatch cropped up in a few architecture projects this week, including a glazed town hall in the Netherlands (above) and a house with straw on the walls as well as the roof.
Work got underway on Herzog & de Meuron's stadium in Bordeaux (above), OMA was chosen to to masterplan a new urban development south of the same city and BIG was selected to design a shopping and leisure area outside Paris (below).
Meanwhile Daniel Libeskind gained planning permission for a proposed peace centre on the site of the notorious former Maze prison in Belfast and the owners of a Santiago Calatrava-designed winery in Spain launched legal action demanding he pays part of the £1.7 million needed to fix the building's leaky roof.
Our most popular stories featured an old Mexican house wrapped in concrete and glass to form a library (above) and a Japanese house with a triangular courtyard and an L-shaped roof terrace tucked behind its walls.
