Inga Sempé launches mix-and-match tile collection for Mutina

Tratti by Inga Sempé's eponymous Parisian design studio is a collection of tiles in eight patterns that can be used individually, or in any combination to create endless compositions (+ slideshow).

Epi

The collection, for Italian ceramics brand Mutina, comprises eight different patterns, plus three pre-selected combinations of tiles – a light mix, a medium mix and a dark mix, which include tiles not available separately.

Croisée

Three plain tiles in Bianco (white), Beige (beige) and Grigio (grey) complete the range.

Aqua and Feutre

Each tile measures 10 by 10 centimetres, is eight millimetres thick, and is made of glazed, homogenous porcelain stoneware, making them suitable for floor and wall use, both indoors and outdoors.

Triple and Bianco

"Each design references a different universe: from fields seen from the sky, to pieces of a fabric, to embroideries, to symbols of cartographic keys, to architectural patterns, to symbols reproduced by prisoners on the wall to count the days," said Sempé.

Beige and Croix

All the patterned tiles feature simple, digitally printed, geometric lines that look hand-drawn.

Mix Scuro

The patterns available separately include Epi, a tree or feather-like repeated pattern, and Triple, in which each tile is split into thirds from a central point and features sets of parallel lines at 120 degrees to each other.

Grigio, Bianco and Ligne

Croisée, Aqua, and Feutre all variations on a simple cross-hatched design. Ligne is made up of parallel lines, the spaces between which are sometimes filled and sometimes left blank, while for Tiers, parallel lines fill a third of the tile and lines perpendicular to these cover the rest.
