Avenue Road showcases high-end furniture in new apartment-style Manhattan showroom

Design retailer Avenue Road has added a new floor to its showroom in New York's Flower District, which is laid out like a luxury apartment to showcase high-end and limited-edition furniture.

The Avenue Road 8A space began welcoming visitors in May 2017 to coincide with the annual NYCxDesign festival.

It was created by curator Stephan Weishaupt, who founded Avenue Road 10 years ago to help introduce the New York market to European talent, and now represents designers and studios on both sides of the Atlantic.

The new 5,000-square-foot (465-square-metre) showroom space is styled as a very spacious one-bedroom apartment, filled with furniture, lighting, artwork and other products.

The space is designed to make customers feel comfortably at home – even though everything down to the bathroom tiles is available to buy.

"The New York design community is seeking unique and elevated experiences," said Weishaupt. "Avenue Road 8A gives our clients a private and personal way to view our collections."

"It's a total concept environment that shows how far they can take the design from furniture to bespoke kitchens and architectural products," he added.

Exiting from the elevator, visitors find themselves in a copper-accented kitchen – the first designed by Bruno Moinard for Obumex. To one side is a dining area that can be used for hosting large dinners and cocktail events.

On the other, a series of rooms including a bedroom, bathroom and library culminate in a large living room, where a giant sofa faces a fireplace.

Designers featured in the apartment include Yabu Pushelberg and Sebastian Herkner, alongside exclusive lines from Christophe Delcourt and Van Rossum.

Textiles from Raf Simons' range for Kvadrat and architectural lighting by Porsche Design Studio are also incorporated.

The apartment will be overhauled biannually to present new designs.

Avenue Road 8A is located on the 8th Floor at 145 West 28th Street, and welcomes visitors by appointment only.

Apartment-style settings are becoming an increasingly popular way for retailers and galleries to showcase collectible design.

Exhibitors at the Nomad fair in Monaco presented pieces within styled rooms at a villa once owned by Karl Lagerfeld, while The Future Perfect's latest venture sees items peppered throughout a modernist home in Los Angeles.
