Hem unveils Chlorophyll and Ink furniture collection inspired by exotic plants and fabrics

Furniture brand Hem has unveiled its 2017/18 collection, which includes new rugs and pouffes with elements borrowed from exotic plants and shimmering fabrics.

Titled Chlorophyll and Ink, the new collection sees the launch of two new products as well as the release of existing designs in new colour combinations.

Hem said the new pieces draw inspiration from exotic plants, as well as shimmering fabrics in deep blue and green, and natural-coloured shades of beige, orange and pink.

Designed by Hem's in-house design studio and named after pralines, the softly curved Bon pouffes are available in three different shapes and in five colours – ink, peacock, ivory, ginger and blossom.

A series of hand-woven 100 per cent wool carpets have also been introduced. Called Dune, the new carpets are Woolmark certified and available in two sizes and four natural colours. Talking about the rug designs in a statement, the company said that "material choice and sustainable production" were its focus.

Luca Nichetto's Hai Chair, which was originally launched by One Nordic in 2013, has been updated with refined lines and two new fabrics. The re-engineered chair is now available in a green upholstery called ink and a deep blue shade that it describes as a "chlorophyll-thick" peacock.

Hem was launched in 2014 when online retailer Fab acquired design brand One Nordic. In 2015, it acquired the rights to over 200 products by Discipline and expanded its customisation service to the US, then was sold to a private investment company in February 2016. Following this, the company was relocated from Berlin to Stockholm, the home city of its CEO and co-founder, Petrus Palmér.
