Astro's architectural lighting collection lets a building take centre stage

Dezeen promotion: Astro Lighting has revealed its new collection of architectural LEDs, which are simple and subtle, so that they never overpower a setting.

Astro's range of British-designed and engineered lights are all geometric shapes in neutral tones, and are intended to provide a flexible lighting solution for modern buildings.

Launched at Lux Live 2017, the collection includes a wide range of understated lights that blend into the background as they highlight architectural features.

"We believe architectural lighting is more about light than the light fitting itself," said John Fearon and James Bassant, co-founders of Astro.

"It is about products that have been designed to blend seamlessly into a scheme yet create a great lighting effect," they added.

The Void collection features a series of trim-less downlights that meld into the ceiling, and are designed to give off a glare-free illumination.

The lights offer a range of fixed-beam angles, colour temperatures and colour rendering index (CRI) options, while a "twist-and-lock" mechanism allows for a quick and simple installation.

The aptly-named Can range is a series of cylindrical spotlights with adjustable heads, which can be positioned to shine the recessed LED light exactly where it is needed.

The Can lights can be set on a surface mount, recessed or mounted onto a track system available in two lengths. An interchangeable bezel also allows for the finish to be changed from white to black.

The Concrete collection – made from concrete – comprises three wall-mounted models named Dunbar, Oslo and Mast.

The manufacturing process involves individually casting each product, using a mix of concrete and weatherproof additives. As a result, each product will have a unique finish, with natural imperfections.

The Oslo produces unusual light patterns, while the deeply recessed LEDs in the Dunbar offer a powerful glare-free illumination. Both are available in black, white, silver and concrete finishes.

Mast is hooded in shape, with its light angled down and away from the wall. It is also available in a variety of finishes, including concrete and antique brass.

Fearon and Bassant founded Astro in 1997. The brand is committed to producing British designed and engineered lighting products.
