Grohe to present minimalist bathroom faucets at Milan design week

Dezeen promotion: Grohe is revealing its latest Atrio collection, a range of minimalist bathroom faucets, with an installation in Milan.

The global brand, which specialises in sanitary fittings for kitchens and bathrooms, has updated its entire Atrio range to create a series of 200 new products.

Grohe plans to showcase the new faucets throughout Milan design week, with an installation inside its recently renovated showroom.

The Atrio collection centres around a paired-back mixer faucet with circular geometries.

Each section is based on a classic cylinder, with identical dimensions from base to tip. The curving spout arches in a perfect semicircle, while the standard tap handles comprise crisscrossing cylinders, embossed with either an H or C on to indicate temperature.

"We explored so many different design possibilities and in the end, came down to design reduction," explained Michael Seum, vice president of design at Grohe. "Atrio is an obsessive simplification of the previous line."

"Finding out the right proportion and attention to detail is what makes this line so iconic and permanent," he added. "I think we crafted a true icon of elegance and precision."

The range features a variety of options, designed to suit a range of settings. The faucet can be set into the floor or a surface. Similarly, the taps can be built into a wall, and there is also the option to swap them for a single, cylindrical lever.

The whole range is designed to be highly ergonomic, with elements that are comfortable to hold and move. It comes in three finishes: SuperSteel, Brushed Hard Graphite or Chrome.

Seum hopes that, with its balanced proportions and clean intersections, the Atrio will become popular with architects and interior designers, and will be used for a wide range of project styles.

"The idea behind new Atrio is design permanence – the design is going to last a long time, it's iconic," he said.

"This is not about risk-taking design, but more about really paying attention to details and being obsessive about proportions."

The design is underpinned by Grohe's latest technology. Atrio faucets feature state-of-the-art cartridges manufactured in Germany and integrated jet regulators, which keep the water propelled from the spout flat and constant.

Grohe will present the Atrio at its showroom on Via Crocefisso from 17 to 22 April 2018, as part of the Fuorisalone. The exhibition will include an immersive installation, as well as a series of rooms showcasing the design in different bathroom settings.
