Delta Light's Milan showroom designed to be "laboratory of ideas"

Delta Light's first Italian showroom in Milan will educate visitors on architectural lighting says the Belgian lighting brand's manager for Italy Gianluca D'Avino in this movie produced by Dezeen.

The showroom based in Milan's Tortona district opened to the public during Milan design week.

D'Avino told Dezeen that along with showcasing Delta Light products, the space will be an "experimental space". He explained that the brand will offer educational workshops on lighting and in-depth guidance on its products to clients.

"Delta Light Studio Milan is our new brand showroom where we meet architects and designers to show them how to use our products," D'Avino said.

On-site lighting experts will be available to provide advice on the technical aspects behind Delta Light's products.

D'Avino explained that the space was a place for architects and designers to experience and interact with Delta Light products in order to find ways to incorporate them into projects.

"It's an experimental space," he said. "It's about an experience that we want to transfer to our visitors, based on support and assistance in making light a part of their project."

Danilo Mandelli, director of Delta Light's international projects division, emphasised that the brand aims to help their clients understand how light can be used as another material in their projects.

"Light is completely intangible and it must be experienced, which is what we're trying to offer here," he said. "Trying to experiment with light, and to give a sense of tangibility to something intangible."

Mandelli said the opening of the new showroom represented a moment of "rebirth" for the brand, whose operations in Italy had previously been delegated to third party companies.

Delta Light has collaborated with a slew of designers and companies for products on show at the space, such as the Dutch architecture firm OMA on their range of XY180 lights.

Also on show at the space is the Polesano range by Dean Skira, an outdoor lighting solution that can be mounted on a pole or on a wall.

Amongst the new products revealed at the showroom during Milan design week was an addition to the brand's Shift Line Matrix system, a pendant light mounted on linear ceiling grid. The addition to the line allows for the ceiling grids to feature curved as well as straight lines.

Mandelli said that Delta Light works together with its clients in order to bring creative lighting solutions to their projects. "They bring their design expertise, we bring our technology expertise," he explained.

Amongst the brand's notable collaborations is Starbucks' portfolio of upscale Reserve Roastery locations, which include interiors designed by Gensler Architects in Shanghai and Kengo Kuma in Tokyo.

Delta Light is the headline sponsor for Dezeen Awards for the second year in a row. Dezeen Awards is an annual awards ceremony celebrating the best in architecture, design and interiors.
