Live interview with Eric Höweler as part of Virtual Design Festival

Architect Eric Höweler of Höweler + Yoon spoke to Dezeen in a live Screentime conversation sponsored by Enscape as part of Virtual Design Festival.

The Boston-based architect discussed his work with Dezeen's founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs.

Höweler is the co-founder of the Boston architecture practice, which he runs together with partner Meejin Yoon. He is an associate professor in architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Höweler has been involved in open-source projects to design and produce face shields and patient isolation hoods for use in hospitals.

Developed in collaboration with colleagues at Harvard GSD and doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital, the lightweight patient isolation hoods fit over coronavirus patients' upper bodies to protect medical staff treating them.

Previous projects completed by Höweler + Yoon include a canopy made from steel modules that provide an area of shade for a small park in Phoenix, Arizona.

In 2015, the architecture studio completed a house in Virginia made from stacked blocks able to accommodate three generations of a family at once.

Höweler + Yoon is currently in construction for an educational facility for the Circus Conservatory in Portland, Maine, which will house America's first-ever accredited degree programme in circus arts.
