Dezeen Showroom: The New Classic is a collection of sanitaryware and accessories designed by Marcel Wanders for Swiss manufacturer Laufen, which hopes to bring a "poetic experience" into bathroom interiors.
Across a selection of basins, WCs, and a bathtub, as well as their accompanying furniture pieces, Wanders contrasts romantic flourishes like sloping, walnut wood legs with modern lines and a monochrome colour palette.
"What we have sculpted in this collection is a poetic experience," said Wanders.
"The bathroom is a place reserved for relaxation, rejuvenation and true peace. Therefore, design plays a crucial role in making the connection with the human spirit in this intimate, private space."
These little, human touches can be seen for example in the body of the ceramic pieces, which are shaped like tulips with rims that curve gently outwards.
This detail is picked up not just in the washbasin and the bidet but also in smaller pieces such as the wall-mounted toilet brush holder or the illuminated, ceramic frame of the oval mirror.
To ground the more playful elements of the collection, the wooden vanities, which either prop up the basin or stand on their own as additional storage, are cast in blackened oak or a slate grey.
